Sandwich Sudoku

The sum of digits between 1 and 9 in each row must equal to the number to the left of that row. Similarly, the sum of digits between 1 and 9 in each column must equal to the number above that column.

Sandwich Sudoku is a fun Sudoku variant. The term sandwich is referring to the digits that are sandwiched between 1 and 9 in each row and column. Sandwich rules below the image.

Sandwich Sudoku rules:

  1. The number above each column is the sum of all the digits between 1 and 9 in that column.
  2. The number to the left of each row is the sum of all digits between 1 and 9 in that row.
  3. If the number above a column or to the left of a row, is 0, it means that numbers 1 and 9 appear next to each other in that row or column.

Sandwich Sudoku Tips

  1. Find the position of 1 and 9 on the board as a first step. It helps with solving the board.
  2. Sum of 35 in a row or column means that 1 and 9 are at the very left and right of the row, or very the top and the bottom of the column. The sum of all the digits between 2 and 8 including 2 and 8 is 35.
  3. Sum of 2, 3 or 4 means that there is only one digit between 1 and 9, and the digit is 2, 3 or 4 respectively.
  4. It often helps to find a digit(s) that must appear between 1 and 9, and establish that it cannot appear outside of the cells between 1 and 9.
